Frame Repainting & Cage Restoration in Venice, FL

Frame Repainting & Cage Restoration in Venice, FL

Most tired lanais in Venice are not worn out. They are wearing a chalky finish, tired mesh, and a few hundred rusting screws over aluminum that is still perfectly sound. A makeover deals with all three at once and leaves you with the cage you have, looking like the cage you bought.

Venice has spent a century restoring its 1926 architecture rather than tearing it down. An aging enclosure earns the same treatment.

Three trades, one project

The finish. White and bronze aluminum oxidizes in Gulf sun and salt into a dull chalk that comes off on your hand. The contractor cleans every member, treats the oxidation, preps the surface, and applies a finish made for aluminum. Prep is most of the job. A color change is on the table if you want one.

The steel. Zinc-coated screws are the first thing salt air defeats, and the rust streaks below each head are the frame asking for attention. A makeover renews every connection with marine-grade stainless fasteners while the frame is bare, so the fresh finish is not streaked again in two seasons.

The screen. New mesh and spline go in last, over clean, refinished channels. Standard 18/14 for airflow on most walls, tighter 20/20 where the lanai faces the bays and creeks, pet-grade bands on the lower panels where claws live. The rescreen is the part the neighbors notice.

What a makeover does not fix

Bent, creased, or corroded-through members, racked door openings, and cages that sit crooked after a storm are structural repairs. A finish will not hide them and the contractor will not pretend it can. Those get flagged separately at the estimate visit, priced as frame repair, and permitted where the City of Venice or Sarasota County requires it. Refinishing and rescreening an unchanged frame generally does not need a permit.

When a makeover makes sense

Cages from the 1990s and 2000s golf villages, and the 1970s and 80s stock on the island and in Venice Gardens, are the classic candidates: sound structure, aged everything else. If the aluminum is past saving, the contractor will say so and talk about replacement instead. Either way you get a written scope at the house.
